I’m Asal Ehsanipour, an audio reporter and producer in the San Francisco Bay Area. Most recently I was a producer for the ABC News audio team, where I produced podcasts in conjunction with Good Morning America. Prior to that I was a senior producer at the Los Angeles Times, where I made narrative and chat podcasts like Foretold, Asian Enough, and The Envelope. Before that my work appeared on KQED Public Radio, KALW Public Radio, PRI’s The World, among others. I was also a producer on The Double Shift, a reported, narrative podcast that challenges the status quo of motherhood in America.

My stories have taken me on a private tour of Guittard’s chocolate factory, behind the scenes of a Fleetwood Mac tribute band, and to the first Black church west of the Mississippi. I love to report character-driven stories about identity and how we understand our place in the world.
In addition to audio reporting and producing, I occasionally write about travel, food, and culture. My work has been recognized by the Signal Awards, the IDA Documentary Awards, the Best of the West Journalism Contest, and the Society for Features Journalism Contest. I am also a recipient of awards from the Society of Professional Journalists’ New America Award, the National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards, and the Los Angeles Press Club.
I have guest lectured at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and presented my reporting on the Bay Area’s history of chocolate for SF City Guides. I’ve also spoken about my Iranian Jewish identity at San Francisco’s Contemporary Jewish Museum’s Veiled Meanings exhibition and at schools around the Bay Area.
