Foretold
Paulina Stevens grew up in an insular Romani American family, destined to leave school, marry young, and become a fortuneteller. By 17, her fate was sealed — until she decided to leave it all behind. "Foretold" follows Paulina as she navigates the consequences of her decision to leave her community and redefine her identity. Hosted by Los Angeles Times reporter Faith Pinho, "Foretold" will take you past the neon "psychic" signs and trendy tarot cards to unravel myths and stereotypes that have followed the Romani people for centuries.
As the senior producer of Foretold, I supervised production of the podcast and its corresponding multimedia initiative highlighting the breadth of the Romani community. In addition to overseeing production deadlines and marketing our efforts, I helped write, report, and edit every episode. Foretold was recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists’ New America Award, Society for Features Journalism Award, Best of the West Journalism Award, and the IDA Documentary Awards. It was also featured on Bingeworthy’s Top 23 Shows of 2023, Tink Media’s Audio Delicacies list, Descript’s best podcasts of 2023 list, and Lifehacker’s 25 Favorite New Podcasts of 2023.
